BEAR's Fruit Treasures have set sail!
BEAR’s Fruit Treasures have set sail and here’s why I think they’re grrreat….
BEAR have just launched a delicious, fruity snack called Fruit Treasures, and I am so excited to tell you all about them. They are everything I look for in a healthy snack – fun, flavour and have a fantastic educational aspect.
As a mother and nutritionist I believe that the earlier we help our children make an association between healthy eating and fun, the better. It’s important for a long term positive relationship with food to learn, at an early age, that fun foods can also be healthy.
One of the reasons older children and adults might struggle with following a healthy lifestyle, is that healthy food is often portrayed as boring and tasteless. It doesn’t need to be that way and the earlier we start, the better.
But of course for that to happen, it’s got to taste good. No matter how healthy something might be, if it doesn’t taste good we won’t eat it – and children definitely will not. Good thing Fruit Treasures are so tasty! Fruity, naturally sweet and made with just fruit – they are a BEARilliant treat. Delicious, fun and wholesome.
BEAR have made Fruit Treasures especially for ages 3 and up. Although each child develops in their own time, and there is a wide range of what is normal and healthy development; by 3, most children will have started to learn to count. BEAR’s Fruit Treasures can be a fun addition to that learning; they are juicy coin shapes with large numbers embossed on them, for little cubs to engage with and develop their numeracy skills.
They come in two flavours, Tropical and Berry and have fun Fairy and Pirate themes to capture children’s imagination.
How can you use Fruit Treasures to make treat time even more fun and educational?
- Practice counting – lay out some Fruit Treasures and ask your little cub to count them. Count together.
- Counting game – see if your little cub will have a go at the counting game on the back of the individual packs.
- Number recognition – ask them what number is on the Fruit Treasure. Show them what that looks like. For example, if there’s a three on the Fruit Treasure, count out three building blocks/toys next to it.
- Use them as the start of colour themed snack trays; for example, the berry Fruit Treasures are a vibrant red colour. Ask your children what other red foods they can think of; tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, raspberries, beetroot, cherries, cabbage, watermelon…. Gather some and make it a fun colour themed meal.
- Work on improving hand eye coordination by encouraging picking up small items. Put their Fruit Treasures on their plate and watch them feel so proud when they can competently pick them up and feed themselves – always under supervision and making sure they eat one at a time.
All of these BEAR Fruit Treasure activities can help reinforce the message that healthy is tasty and healthy is fun - served up in a fruity treat, your little cubs will absolutely love.
